Genetics
Strathfield Rams methodology employs the LAMBPLAN database and visual selection to harness the best genetics available from around the country to use in their breeding program.
Drawing on a diverse pool of rams, we are able to identify the most influential genetics which will project faster enhancements in the stud.
Lambing ease, rapid early growth and high muscle are by far the most important profit drivers in a meat producing enterprise. We have a strong focus on early growth (WWT - Weaning Weights) and PWT (Post Weaning Weights) which provides confidence that our rams will produce prime lambs at saleable weights, at a faster rate, that will suit most production systems.
We utilise a LAMBPLAN certified technician to collect data at precise collection milestones throughout the animal’s life – primarily focussing on fat and muscle scanning.
Data driven performance for producers, tailored for consumers

Genotyping also plays a critical role in the progression of the stud. Genotyping is the process of sequencing and identifying differences in the DNA makeup of individual sheep. This allows us to correct for and improve the accuracy of objectively measured traits, as well as quantify the ‘hard to measure’ traits such as eating qualities (including marbling and tenderness) and meat yield.
